Winkelturm Nordwand-Klettersteig - Torre Clampil - D/E
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
A racy via ferrata in the north-east part of the mountain - very exhausting. Also the normal route's security was improved with iron ropes. From the mighty Roßkofel you can - if you still have the strength - enjoy a beautiful view of the Nassfeld area or south towards Italy.
Arrival
A2 to the Arnoldstein exit, then on the B111 via Hermagor to Tröpolach. Park there at the valley station and take the "Millenium Express" cable car up to the Madritschen. Alternatively, you can drive up to the Sonnenalpe Nassfeld Pass (Nassfeld - entry: 1,5 hours).
Approach
From the Madritschen to southwest to the saddle. Slightly ascending on the path to the junction - left to the east ridge and right to the north face via ferrata.
Exit
Descend from the Clampil summit to the E.T. Contin Scharte (2049 m) (short secured B/C). From the notch either left via Via ferrata Enrico Contin (B) into the Winkeltal and at approx. 1800 m on the left back to Madritschen, or on the right following the markings in easy terrain, down the path to the valley floor (60 m secured, B) and right back to Madritschen.
Interesting facts
Risk of falling rocks when entering the north face via ferrata. Further ascent to the Roßkofel: from the E.T. Contin Scharte over the upper part of the Via ferrata Enrico Contin (B, 1 hour) to the Roßkofel and on the marked hiking trail over the Rudnigsattel in 2 hours back to the Madritschen.
