WILDENTAL Klettersteig - Persailhorn - B/C
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
Very nice, rather easier via ferrata starts with an easy ridge climb, then turns left, slight descent, traverse with the hardest point B/C, vertical climb, cross terrain, 3 short ladders on sloping rock, chimney climb, easy transition, before another climb B/C is connected to the neighboring via ferrata Südwand, and then only a slight crossing of the ridge, one section of about 20 m is without a rope, but there is nothing to worry about. The orientation of the via ferrata is to the northwest, the middle part is always in the shade, the morning can be wet and slippery. There are wonderful views from the via ferrata and from the top itself.
Arrival
The Bachwinkl parking at the end of the town of Saalfelden am Steineren Meer - see GPS coordinates.
Approach
From the Bachwinkl parking, take route no. 412 towards the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte, after 500m you have the choice to continue on route no. 412 (sharp left turn along the forest path, the first part is a sharp ascent, then a gentler ascent) or straight on route no. 412e, ascent is more or less evenly distributed. Both routes will join again at the signpost at an altitude of 1345m, from here you can again choose the easiest route No. 412, the longer route No. 412a or the difficult black trail No. 412d. From the cottage, take route no. 428 in the direction of Klettersteige Persailhorn and at the signpost at an altitude of 1945m, continue to the left along route 428b Wildentalklettersteig, you will be at the via ferrata in approx. 5 minutes.
Exit
From the top, you can descend via the same via ferrata or via the Südwand via via ferrata or the very steep black mountain trail No. 428 (dangerous scree terrain) to the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte, from which you can take a variant of route No. 412 to the parking.
Interesting facts
The sun shines on the Südwand via ferrata for most of the day, for this reason it is usually used to ascend to the top and descend via the Wildental via ferrata, on which, on the other hand, the sun never shines in its middle part and therefore the morning can be wet and slippery. The total elevation gain from the parking to the top of the Persailhorn is 1500m.
We recommend option 412/412e/412 for getting from the parking to the cottage, and 412a/412 for going down.
The Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte was built in the years 1924-1926, it is open from April mostly until October 26 (weather permitting) and also provides accommodation. More at https://wiechenthaler-huette.at
