Characteristics
The Via Ferrata Peňa Rueba is a secured route that circles the mountain range to the southeast. First you gain altitude, where walking alternates with via ferrata sections. You reach a kind of rock dome, which you can optionally climb onto using the via ferrata. However, the route itself turns to the northwest, overcomes the most difficult part of the via ferrata and then only leads through a slightly secured climb. The summit of Peňa Rueba can then be reached via a path in a simple scree field.
Arrival
You reach the village of Murillo de Gállego. If you don't want to drive your car any further, leave it in a parking lot. However, if you want to save 2 km of ascent and therefore 2 km of descent, drive on a gravel road north of the village to the second artificial lake, where there is a parking lot and a sign. After that, entry for cars is prohibited.
Boarding
Go north to a noticeable rocky outcrop. You go around the rock to the right, go slightly downhill and then follow a narrow path between bushes to the first rope, where some clamps are waiting for you.
Exit
There are only two ways back. One option is to go back the same way, which is the easier option. The other option is to descend the Varela Portillo via ferrata, which is more demanding and time-consuming. This takes you back to the ledge and then to the parking lot.
Interesting facts
There is also the Varela Portillo via ferrata with a difficulty level of B/C.
The rocks here are well known among climbers. There are many routes and beautiful rocks.
