Characteristics
Ferrata near Vartop-Arieseni was built in 2014 on the rocks of the Pietrele Negre (Black Stones) in Apuseni. The route was built by Salvaspet Salvaspeo Bihor, a Romanian mountain rescue unit from Bihor County.
* The first half of the route is easier, with frequent metal clips. At the top, the route is divided into two.
* Easier choice rises another 25m and reaches the ridge.
* The second option, moderately difficult and not recommended for beginners unaccompanied by experienced people, continues on the left with Marele Traverseu Pietrele Negre (a long elevation of Black Rocks) with a length of 120 m, at the end of which you will encounter the hardest part of the journey. About 3 to 4 meters of vertical climb, where you need more power in your hands.
Arrival
On the road (DJ75) between Băiţa and Vârtop (DJ75), 5 km before Vartop and 12 km before Baita, appears a rock formation known as Pietrele Negre, meaning Black Rocks. Here the access route begins. You can park your car next to the road - there are several options near this place.
Approach
Following the red cross sign after a short time the trail turns left, but you have to go right, towards the rock.
Exit
1) From the ridge, head about 50 meters to the right until you reach a steep slope. This allows you to go down the forest, but even though this is the quickest option, it is dangerous and the terrain is rough, so you should consider the second option.
2) Instead of going right, follow the ridge to the left along the red marked hiking trail. The journey is worthwhile and will take no more than 45 minutes to reach the starting point.
