Steinbock-Knorren-Nadel-Klettersteig - C
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
Two short but not uninteresting practice ferratas with a view of the ice giants of the Zillertal Alps. You can “conquer” the knot in three variants - the middle climb is bold and exposed, the left and right variants are suitable for families. When ascending with the mountain railway, the climb in combination with a hike is a nice undertaking.
Arrival
Park on the A12 to the Zillertal exit and continue on the well-built B169 via Zell am Ziller to Mayrhofen, at the Penkenbahn (www.mayrhofner-bergbahnen.com).
Public transport: by train to Jenbach and then by the rustic Zillertalbahn to Mayrhofen (information: www.zillertalbahn.at).
Approach
From the mountain station either continue with the 3-seater chairlift Penken up to the exit point, then walk on the gravel road towards Penkenjoch. Before the Knorren mountain station, turn right to the rock face. Alternatively, you can hike from the mountain station of the Penkenbahn to Knorren - additional effort approx. 45 min.
Exit
From the end of the "circular route" back to the gravel road and back on the ascent path.
Interesting facts
Steinbock via ferrata is C (several places), the Knorren-Nadel via ferrata is B (one place at the very beginning). Via ferrata sets can be borrowed at the mountain station of the 4-person Lärchenwald chairlift.
