Characteristics
The Schriesheim via ferrata in the Schriesheim quarry actually serves purely as an ascent/descent aid for sport climbers. It connects three climbing levels through a total of four approaches that can be used as a via ferrata.
Update 2025: Added descent route.
Arrival
Prague > on the D5 via Rozvadov > then on the A6 until the junction with the A5 to Frankfurt > then direction Frakfurt nad Mohanen > exit the highway at the village of Schriesheim and head towards Strahlenburg. There is a parking lot here, which is mostly private and intended for the restaurant in the castle.
Alternative parking: 49.4768003N, 8.6765433E.
Onset
From the car park, head southwest towards the vineyards, but stay on the edge of the forest and go up the steep path until you come across a concrete house with a transmitter on top, from where the via ferrata is already marked. Then follow the forest path to the right until you reach the intersection of the quarry, where there is a chain. There, turn left to the rocks - the entrance is to the left of the information board.
Descent
After the descent part of the via ferrata - see TOPO.
Interesting facts
Can be combined with climbing in a quarry, with a hike to the nearby Ölberg mountain, a visit to Strahlenburg Castle or the nearby Schauenburg ruins.
