Characteristics

Another alternative via ferrata route for the climb to the Alpspitze. Its difficulty is rated B, making it an easier variant than the neighboring Mauerlaufersteig via ferrata. The via ferrata leads to the saddle below the Bernadeinkopf summit. The safety equipment is outdated, similar to the Alpspitze via ferrata, and there is an increased risk of falling rocks.

Arrival

To the Kreuzeck-Alpspitzbahn car park in the city of Garmisch.

Boarding

Take the Alpspitzbahn cable car to the Osterfelderkopf and then on the gravel path to the turnoff at the Schongange junction. Here you turn right and follow the junction to Schongange and Mauerlaufersteig, choosing Schongange. Continue on to the via ferrata.

Exit

The shortest option back to the cable car is via the Nordwandsteig (A/B), or you can descend via the Alpspitze.
