Mangart - Pot po vzhodnem grebenu - B/C
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
The ferrata tour with the biggest elevation gain in Slovenia (2000 m). Very long and exhausting tour on east ridge of Mangart (2678 m), which has not only some technical difficulties in the via ferrata itself, but also demanding ascent on steep and exposed slopes of Mangart and other peaks along the way.
Arrival
From Log pod Mangartom to Koritnica until we reach the table indicating core area of Triglav national park.
Approach
From the parking lot we continue on a bad road (closed for traffic) until we reach Koritniška planina (almost 1h). In continuation there are two forks (to Zavetišče pod Špičkom and Kotovo sedlo), where we have to stay on our way towards the wall of Kotova špica, where our via ferrata starts.
Exit
To Mangart saddle (Mangarstko sedlo) over upper part of Via Italiana (1,5h) and from there via an unmarked hunters path back to Koritnica (difficult orientation!).
Interesting facts
If we prolong a tour only for a little bit we reach the Italian version of this via ferrata (from Rob nad Zagačami to the top of Mali Koritniški Mangart), where the difficulties are up to level D.
