Characteristics
The Tramuntany mountain trekking club set up via ferrata in Puig Major - the highest mountain in Majorca - to protect the toads from Majorca (Alytes muletensis, Mallorca says "Ferreret").
Via ferrata consists of stairs, hooks and railings on the slope of the Gorg del Diners. On the way to the summit, climbers have waded through reservoirs that are so important for the reproduction of toads.
Torso Gorg dels Diners rises on the north side of Puig Major and ends in the sea in Cala Tuent. It is one of the most popular climbing routes in Majorca.
The mountain has two peaks: one forbidden, which was closed in 1958, when the Americans built a radar station. It controls West Africa and North Africa, and one that you can see from the Sóller Valley, Penya des Migdia ("Nooncliff" 1,398 m). You can climb it, but you cant walk the military road to the forbidden peak.
