Habicht-Steig - A/B
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
The massive Habicht is the highest elevation of the Habicht-Elfer crest. The rise is mostly secured with rope railings over long distances.
Arrival
On the B182 or on the toll A13 to Matrei. Further into the Gschnitz valley and to the paid parking lot at the Ghf. Flint.
Public transport: by train to Steinach. From there by bus to Gschnitz Ghf. Flint.
Approach
From the Ghf. Feuerstein in Gschnitz-Obertal a few steps into the valley to the cable car (backpack transport possible). There the convenient path branches off to the hut. This path was built in 1997/1998 and leads to Innsbrucker Hütte on a gentle slope. The approach path to Habicht begins behind the hut. On the pathway to start of via ferrata (4 hours from the valley; 1 hour from the hut).
Exit
Via the path back to the Innsbrucker Hütte and via the hut ascent into the valley.
ATTENTION: When descending in spring, do not descend over the fir field and the steep fir gutter to the left of the descent path, as the gutter breaks off suddenly in rock falls over the Pinnistal! (frequent accidents !!).
Interesting facts
Despite the low climbing difficulties, the ascent of Habicht should not be underestimated (absolute elevation, contact with the glacier). Can be combined well with the Stubai High Trail.
