Characteristics
For the ascent to the massive, completely free-standing mountain of the Grimming you need one thing above all: good physical condition! The climb on the southeast side of Grimming is the centerpiece of a technically simple but very long mountain tour. The charms of the wild rock landscape with perfect views of the Dead Mountains and the Lower Tauern are clearly in the foreground.
Arrival
A9 to Selzthal junction or A10 to Ennstal exit, then on the B146 to Niederstuttern.
By public transport: By train to Stainach-Irdning and then by bus (line 900) to Niederstuttern Ort.
Approach
From the parking lot through the small village and along the marked path to the Grimming hut (966 m). After the hut, continue in the direction of Grimming ("Grimming via Multereck" board) to the so-called Au. To the right past a marking stone and across a small rubble field to the first ladder. Alternatively, you can also ascend from Trautenfels Castle to the Grimminghütte (but is a little longer).
Exit
Like ascent. If you are traveling with public transport or have parked a second vehicle in Kulm, you can descend via the north slope (A/B) and thus expand the tour to a great crossing.
Interesting facts
The tour is easy, but very long! In wet and light snow conditions, the ascent or descent is very uncomfortable. Below the summit is a small bivouac hut (Dr. Obersteiner bivouac) in a northwest direction.
