Gretchensteig - Heukuppe - A
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
The Gretchensteig is a popular via ferrata through the Raxenmauer. The highlight is the attractive block ridge in the exit area. This short via ferrata is also a nice alternative to the normal path (snake path) to Karl-Ludwigshaus or further to the Heukuppe.
Arrival
A2 to the Seebenstein junction, then on the S6 to the Gloggnitz exit. Continue to Reichenau an der Rax, from there to Preiner Gscheid (parking fee).
By public transport: By train to Payerbach-Reichenau and then by bus (line 1748) to Preiner Gscheid Edelweißhütte.
Approach
First from the parking lot at Preiner Gescheid (1070 m) on the yellow path through the forest to just before the Reisstalerhütte (private). There leave the Reißtalersteig on the right and follow the green marking to the entrance of the Gretchensteig. Alternatively, you can board the Moassa inn. Start at 1750 m.
Exit
Those who have had no problems on the Gretchensteig can descend via the somewhat more difficult Reißtalersteig. Otherwise on the snake path (past the Waxriegelhaus) back to the car, approx. 1 hour.
Interesting facts
The Gretchensteig can be combined very well with a descent via the Reißtalersteig. You can also climb the Heukuppe (2007 m). Good hikers can take the Karl-Kantner Steig or the Bismarcksteig with them on the descent.
