Gleiwitzer Höhenweg - C
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
The Hohe Tenn and its secondary summit, the Schneespitze, are the quiet counterpart to many overcrowded peaks in the Glockner Group. Since the entrances are relatively long on all sides, it is advisable to move into the Gleiwitzer hut, which is open during the summer. Above all, the magnificent view makes the approximately 4 km long Gleiwitz High Trail a very worthwhile company. Quote Reinhold Messner: "The most beautiful high-altitude trail in the Alps".
Arrival
On the B311 through the Salzach Valley to Bruck an der Glocknerstraße. Turn there and take the Glocknerstrasse to Fusch. In the village, right after the bridge over the Hirzbach, turn right (sign "Gleiwitzer Hütte") - to parking.
Public transport: by train to Bruck-Fusch and by bus (line 650) to Fusch an der Glocknerstraße.
Approach
On the marked hiking trail no. 725 over the Hirzbachalm (1715 m) to the Gleiwitzer hut. The first easy route 723 leads from the hut to the Ochsenkar with only a slight gain in altitude.
Exit
Like approach.
Interesting facts
Possible variations are the ascent to the Gleiwitzer hut from the Kaprun valley via the Brandlscharte and the direct ascent and descent from the Mooserboden reservoir, which only flows into the Gleiwitzer Höhenweg at the Kempsenkopf. Solid alpine experience is required to climb the high trail! The way over the airy ridge to the 50 meter higher main summit of the Hohen Tenn requires block climbing up to difficulty level 2 and is not secured! Additional time required: 45 minutes.
