Characteristics
A smaller ridge via ferrata with some airy passages and beautiful views of the Procinto and the southern Apuan Mountains. The security elements are older, but still serve their purpose and are in good condition. It is also suitable for beginners who can also get adrenaline from it. The via ferrata leads to Monte Forato, from where, if you really look around, you can see an impressive natural phenomenon.
Arrival
For the easiest access, we recommend parking in the parking lot of the Alto Mattana restaurant at 1030 m above sea level. Unfortunately, in return for the quick access, the journey via serpentines and a not very good road is quite lengthy.
An alternative is the car park at the end of the village of Stazzema at 500 m above sea level, where access by car is easy.
Boarding
From the Alto Mattana car park, walk north to the Foce delle Porchette and then continue across the rocky area to the Foce di Petrosciana. Then north again to Monte Forato, but be sure to turn left over the rock face onto the upper path. After about 400 m, turn left onto the rock where the via ferrata begins.
Exit
From the summit, descend to the normal route to Forato and from the junction follow the same route back, or extend the route around Procinto or over Monte Nona.
Interesting facts
There is an impressive rock formation between the Forato Sud and Forato Nord peaks.
