Characteristics
The via ferrata is called "Scala-Pipan" on the south side of the Montasch. "Scala" is Italian and means "ladder". It is the central element that is remembered when you think back on the tour years later. In the upper part of the tour there is an approx. 70 m high ladder on the rock that makes it easier to climb the summit ridge. And this legendary ladder has been there for quite a while - more precisely, since the First World War, when the Italians had their positions high up. In the meantime, however, it has been renewed several times and is constantly being maintained. The lower part of the route leads up over rock bands and stepped terrain, with only individual points being insured with steel cables. The tour described here is a classic via ferrata.
From a landscape point of view, you are in one of the most beautiful spots in the Julian Alps, the contrast between rugged rocks and green pastures is very impressive. After the work is done, a stop at the Pecol Alm is recommended, where you can enjoy culinary delights!
Arrival
From Tarvisio via the SS 54 to Cave del Predil (Raibl) towards the Predil Pass. After Cave del Predil, turn right at the crossroads at Raibler See and take the SP 76 to Sella Nevea. In the distinctive hairpin bend, about 150 meters after the police station (Guardia di Finanza), a narrow asphalt road turns, which leads to the Pecol Alm. The parking lot is at the end of the road.
Approach
Several paths lead from the Pecol Alm (1519m) over the Altipiano del Montasio up to the Forca dei Disteis (2201m). Now the path crosses east until you reach the entrance to the rocks. Here is a lettering in red letters and with an arrow (at 2250m).
Exit
Descend via the via ferrata and return via the approach path. The Findenegg path would be an alternative, but here you have to climb unsecured almost continuously in the 2nd degree.
