Characteristics
A sports via ferrata in Slovenia! As an addition to the many iron trails in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karavanke, there has been a sporty ascent variant since 2014 for the Češka koča (Czechs' Hut). The via ferrata is excellently secured with a steel cable, although sometimes the distances to the cape are slightly far apart. It is climbed exclusively on the rock, which makes the trail particularly attractive.
The via ferrata is demanding in the first, lower half, although one should not be deterred by the topo on site (the "E" position is a challenging "D"). For beginners, the climb is not suitable!
The rock is unfortunately a bit brittle, which is why the rope is often used as a climbing aid. Attention, there is a risk of falling rocks, keep your distance and put on the helmet immediately at the entrance.
Arrival
From Bad Eisenkappel coming to the state border between Austria and Slovenia on Seebergsattel (1216m) and continue towards Zgornje Jezersko. After a few hairpin bends on the road 210 before Zgornje Jezersko turn left to Planšarsko jezero.
On the Slovenian E61 motorway, exit at Kranj and continue on road 210 north to Zgornje Jezersko. Approximately 1,5 km after the village turn right to Planšarsko jezero.
Follow the last few kilometers on a gravel road in the direction of Češka koča to the large trail parking lot.
Approach
From the trail parking lot follow the "extension" of the road on foot (markings "via ferrata" sufficiently available). At the cable cars, do not go easily left to Krainerhütte and also not sharp right to the hiking trail to the Czech hut, but half right (almost straight) and follow the path. Soon you come to a cirque, and from there you can already see on the right hand the rock to be climbed. Then turn right at a pointer. The approach takes about 45 minutes and already offers first beautiful views of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and their 2000m summits and the beautiful Ravenska valley. Do not follow the hint UMIK, this is the emergency exit (unless you want to skip the difficult, lower part and get in higher up, then you could hike up here).
Exit
There are two ways down. Either turn right at the Češka koča (climb with wooden ladders), at the end steep, or left after the via ferrata exit follow the direction Krainerhütte and then later at a turn left down again in the cirque, from where you came. Attention, this descent route is demanding on a short piece (sure-footedness required, rope safety), but beautiful and spectacular.
