Corrado d’Ambros-Klettersteig - B/C
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
A constant up and down on the almost 1,5 km long border ridge secured with steel cables between East Tyrol and Italy. In addition to the particularly airy ridge course, the highlights are two war tunnels and a ladder. Despite the moderate difficulties and the magnificent view (summit from the Großglockner and many Dolomite peaks etc.), you should invest sufficient concentration in the ascent. Because the security elements are only sparingly attached and the area is usually quite exposed.
Arrival
On the B100 via Lienz to Cupbach. Turn left there and over the Kartitscher saddle to the western outskirts of Obertilliach. A road leads from the Gasthof Weiler across the Mühlboden (end of the asphalt) to the Klapfsee; park there.
By public transport: by train to Cupbach or Sillian and further by bus (line 4416) to Obertilliach Gasthof Weiler. On foot from Obertilliach (1:30 hours ascent, 1:15 hours descent) or by taxi to Klapfsee.
Approach
Ascend from Klapfsee through the Porzekar to the Porzescharte. There follow the signpost "Klettersteig Filmoorhöhe" on the Italian side of the ridge and the path to the entrance at 2430 m.
Exit
From the end of the ferrata, follow the line a bit further to a signpost. Then on the north side in climbing lanes down to the Filmoor-Standschützenhütte. Descend on the Carnic high trail to the Upper Stuckensee and ascend to the herring bar. Now over the Klapfalm down to the starting point.
Interesting facts
Goes well with climbing the Great Kinigat (A/B) or the Porze (A/B). Most signposts have unrealistically long walking times.
