Characteristics

The Via ferrata Renè de Pol follows former war climbs to the Forame di Dentro (2385 m) and thus connects some relics of the Austrian armed forces. The rarely used via ferrata is only partially secured. Much exposed walking terrain and the risk of falling rocks due to climbers above require increased caution. If the grandiose mountain landscape with a historical background is more important than climbing highlights, you will get your money's worth on this tour.

Arrival

From the north: via Lienz or Brixen to Toblach. Turn south there and take state road 51 to Ospitale or Im Gemärk.

From the south: via Vittorio-Veneto to Cortina d'Ampezzo. There on the state road 51 north to Ospitale or Im Gemärk.

Approach

From Ospitale or Im Gemärk along the route of the former Dolomitenbahn to Pian del Forame (1495 m). Follow the signpost and climb the steep hiking trail to the roping point in a rock niche (N46.60581, E12.16871, climbing book). The entrance is reached after another 100 vertical meters.

Exit

Ascend from the exit to the Forame di Dentro (2385 m) in a few minutes. Descend on the southeast side and cross the Forame de Inze up and down tangentially to Forcella Verde (2380 m) (max. A). Steep down either right on the scree back to the ascent path or left steeply into the Val Pra del Vecia and descend through the valley to Im Gemärk.

Interesting facts

Can be easily combined with the much longer Via ferrata Ivano Dibona.
