Via ferrata Croda Rossa di Sesto - A/B
Predicting whether..
Characteristics
The via ferrata is swaying between the remnants of the former Austrian WWII combat positions. In its entire length, under good conditions, it is rather easy, minimally exposed, adequately labeled and, where necessary, secured with ropes.
Arrival
Sexten - Bad Moos.
Approach
From Bad Moos by cable car to Rotwand, the "Zum Rudi" buffet shows an infoboard on the right to the start of the ferrata. Follow the road no.100 to the Rotwandköpfen crossroad. Using ladders and fixed ropes overcome the first steep path. In addition to the demolished quarters and trenches, continue up to the Sextener Rotwand, and through the steep path to the top.
Exit
Either the same way back, or more fun, but harder, follow the Via Ferrata Mario Zandonella down to the Passo della Sentinella. From there by a steep debris trough (mostly snowy and icy) to the west down the road no.100 and 124 back to the upper cable car station.
Interesting facts
Top, for which was fiercely fought in the First World War, offers a spectacular circular view.
