Characteristics

The via ferrata Alquimia has been renewed with new variants, starting with a mini ferrata, a via cordata to continue and an exit with several options of maximum difficulty K5. Knowing the technique of progression by cordata is essential to complete the itinerary.

Arrival

Head towards the district of Ayacata that divides the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and Tejeda. Once in Ayacata, continue along the GC-60 towards Tejeda for 2 km and park in the designated area (see coordinates) of the main road just at kilometer 12 of the GC-60. It is about 40 km (1:15 h.) from both Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Maspalomas.

Approach

From the parking walk on the left side of the road towards Ayacata and after about 600 meters (GC-60, km 12.5) is the path that goes up to the foot of the road. The trail is only 140 meters long and is easy to access and is equipped with handrails and ropes.

Attention!!! only the first part up to the 35m rappel is possible. After that, the steps are dismantled and require a minimum climbing level of 6a. In addition, section 1 is now a multi-pitch sport climbing route (status 20.01.2023).

As typical for the style in Spain/France the cable is only for security and should NOT be used for climbing, so of course also the difficulty level is based on that (different style like in the alps etc. where the cable has much more tension and counts as part of the ferrata)
