Characteristics

Via ferrata high above the beautiful village of Polop with a view of the sea. The difficulties on this perfectly secured climb are quite constant, but for the descent you need a 70m or a double rope, because you have to abseil 2 times. The views of the skyscrapers of Benidorm lying on the horizon and the mountains are brilliant.

Arrival

From Valencia or Alicante to Altea and here inland to Polop and further to the via ferrata parking.

Approach

From the via ferrata parking cross the dried out river bed and follow the white signed path, which is later marked with yellow dots, up to the entrance. After the riverbed, there are several paths in the forest, but they eventually meet again. Do not follow the large trail on the left in the riverbed/ditch!

Descent

From the exit follow an unmarked path to the right horizontally above the wall and later descend. Here a short secured spot (A) and occasional cairns. Continue descending until you reach the break-off edge. There is a wooden board "Abseil" and the passage to the band that leads to the abseil point is secured. Before the abseil point also again a wire rope. Now 1x 20 meters and 1x 35 abseil. Abseiling points are perfectly set up and new. After the second rappel point, follow a path under the entrance and return to the parking lot via the approach path.

Points of interest

For the abseil you MUST have a 70 m rope or a double rope and abseil experience, also overhanging abseiling is required.

For the approach and descent you need some surefootedness. Although no fall terrain, but smaller rock slabs.

As typical for the style in Spain/France the cable is only for security and should NOT be used for climbing, so of course also the difficulty level is based on that (different style like in the alps etc. where the cable has much more tension and counts as part of the ferrata)
