Characteristics

Preinerwandsteig is the easiest ferata that will take you to the top of Preinerwand. There are other more challenging ways to get there - either via Haidsteig or Königschusswand Steig.

Arrival

From Vienna take A2 towards Graz, then take the S6 and exit to Gloggnitz. Go towards Reichenau an der Rax where you turn left and drive through the town of Prein an der Rax. Near the end, turn right, following the Klettergebiet Preinerwand / Griesleitenhof sign. Then go straight all the way to the barrier where you can park.

Approach

Take the forest path towards Preinerwald and after a few hundred meters turn right and follow the green path uphill. Keep right and go through the woods.

Exit

When you finish the ferrata, there are still a few dozen meters left to the summit cross. Once you're there you can choose from several paths. We recommend descending to neue Seehute, from which you can comfortably descend taking the marked path back to the parking spot.
