Characteristics

A beautiful alpine via ferrata that has it all. There are three sections of difficulty D/E (the hardest is about twenty meters from the start, if you can get through it, you'll get through the whole ferrata) and couple of exposed sections. Although ferrata is of difficulty D/E, there is a lot of steps and natural holds.

Ferrata replicates the original hunting trail built in 1915, from which there still remains a lot of parts of the original trail - ladders and cramps. So it can also be partly taken as a history trip :)

Arrival

Munich - Innsbruck - Brenner - Bolzano - Pozza di Fassa - behind Pozza di Fassa a sign of no entry will stop you. In front of the sign there is a cottege and a huge car park where you can park your car. There is a fee of 3€ (2018)

Approach

Continue along the road, where is the car ban. After 1,5km, the road becomes a gravel road that leads you to a monument from the First World War. At the monument follow the road number 608 to right and you will hold on until you see the via ferrata arrow sign. Turn to the left on the path between the trees to the forest. Continue to Rifugio Passo di San Nicolo (all perfectly marked) from where it is about 10 minutes to get to the start of the ferrata.

Exit

The same way you came. Or you can take the worse path to the left towards Baita Cascate (unmarked, pave path in the meadow .... the way from Baita Cascate can also be used as a approach path. There are nice waterfalls).

Interesting facts

- infosigns with labels and historical photos of mountain hunters from the First World War, lining the first part of the road

- the remmainings of the original cramps and ladders from 1915

- waterfall, almost along the way (about 500 from the turn to the forest)

- in the last part of the approach to the ferrata you will intertwine between cows, horses, donkeys and other animals
