Characteristics

A huge rope suspension bridge with a Rätikon panorama - where can you find it? On the Hochjoch above Schruns, a demanding via ferrata has been created, in which the rope suspension bridge represents the "Grande Finale". Those who are not as experienced with via ferrata can also reach the Hochjoch summit via the second part (descent) of the via ferrata and incorporate the 62-meter-long suspension bridge as a kind of summit tour. No matter whether you choose the direct, somewhat heavier summit via ferrata (C) or just the south ridge (B) for the ascent to the 2520 m high Hochjoch - the wonderful mountain panorama is the same. From the summit, the view glides over the mountain ranges of Rätikon, Verwall and Silvretta and below, the sun is reflected in the three mountain lakes, Herzsee, Kälbersee and Schwarzsee - in case of nice weather.

Arrival

Leave the A14 motorway at the Bludenz-Montafon exit and continue to Schruns. Follow the signs to the valley station of the Hochjochbahn in Schruns.

Public transport: by train to Schruns and from there to the valley station of the Hochjochbahn.

Approach

Variant 1 (Times from Topo): From the Sennigrat mountain station (chairlift above the Hochjochbahn), head shortly north, then follow along the ski slope to the right and continue on the steep, marked path down to the Seetalhüsli (a small hut near Kälbersee). From Seetalhüsli, briefly follow the gravel path towards Wormser Hütte until you reach a signpost. From there, go left down to Schwarzsee and around the lake. At the end of the steep meadow path, hike up to the starting point.

Variant 2: Take the Hochjoch Bahn I up the mountain. At the mountain station, keep left and pass the adventure playground, following the children's play and adventure path. Continue to Speicherteich Kapell. Here, you can either go left along the storage pond (Variant 3) or follow the road to the right. It leads through the ski tunnel (which has a few climbing grips at the exit for warm-up). After the ski tunnel, keep left (at the height of the Bach) and follow the hiking trail around Schwarzsee until you reach the starting point.

Variant 3: Take the Hochjoch Bahn I up the mountain. At the mountain station, keep left and pass the adventure playground, following the children's play and adventure path. Continue to Speicherteich Kapell. Here, you can either go right along the storage pond (Variant 2) or follow the hiking trail behind the pond to the left. There should be two intersections where you always take the right path. Now, you will arrive at Schwarzsee. Before the lake, go left along the lake to reach the starting point.

Descent

The via ferrata ends at the mountain station of the Hochalpila lift (winter only). From there you follow the ski slope (marking) and then the signposted hiking trail to the Wormser hut. From there on the hiking trail back to the Sennigrat mountain station and with the chairlift and the Hochjochbahn down into the valley.

Alternatively, you can descend on the gravel path to the Seetalhüsli and from there walk through the ski tunnel to the mountain station of the Hochjochbahn. Additional effort approx. ½ to ¾ hours.
