 Characteristics

A nice forest via ferrata led on several rock formations, gradually connected to each other, is mostly climbed in a traverse, but also contains several interesting challenges. The via ferrata is divided into 3 parts, all the most difficult sections can be bypassed and thus choose the ideal level of difficulty.

1st part - consists of a total of 6 via ferrata sections, starting with the most difficult section D/E and E - on a small rock formation there is an inclined traverse in the overhang D/E followed by a vertical ascent in the overhang E. This part can be bypassed through a rock crack without belaying, but with a few steel steps or go around to the right through the forest. You then continue left to another rock formation, this section is mostly B difficulty. Next is a section called Echo Wand, in the middle of which is a harder C/D traverse. The next, longest section is called Hollenderer Brückl with a wooden bridge, behind which is another more difficult traverse C/D. After crossing the forest terrain, there is a difficult section called Wittmann-Schikane, where at the beginning you have to climb over the rock edge in the D/E overhang and find two small natural stupas behind the edge, but you cannot see ahead. The rock is smooth, worn, pretty slippery, this section has no steel steps and is the second hardest after the initial challenge. The last 6 via ferrata section is already easier with the hardest place C/D.

2nd part - consists of 3 easier sections, Petrus-Brettl, Hirschbach-Kamnzel and Frankenkammer with the most difficult place C. The second part ends with a descent through a rock chimney without rope support, only with a few steel pegs. From above, the entrance is marked with a red and white dot. If you don't dare, you can bypass this place from the left and possibly climb this section from the bottom up, which is significantly easier.

3rd part - it is a little further from the previous sections and starts with an unpleasant sharp slanting ascent D on a smooth slippery rock with one natural slippery step (for smaller climbers more difficulty D/E), followed by a traverse in a nutritious overhang D with pegs and another difficult traverse D already without steel steps. This whole passage is very difficult, mostly D and quite long.

The entire via ferrata is well secured with a steel rope and in many places also with steel pins - but beware! these pegs are completely smooth, the climbers are ideally polished and they are quite slippery even in the dry! Some are quite far apart, which can be difficult for shorter climbers. Transitions between individual climbing sections are marked with red and white dots.

Arrival

Via Rozvadov to Nürnberg, you will go down to Amberg and then take the direction of Sulzbach-Rosenberg, which you will pass and turn to Hersbruck. A few more kilometers before it, turn right to the village of Pommelsbrunn and drive to Hegendorf, where you turn right, after a few hundred meters the asphalt ends and you follow the gravel road to the large paid parking lot Wanderparkplatz Neutras, fee 3 EUR/6 hours or 5 EUR /24 hours. The machine accepts coins only.

Approach

From the parking, cross the road in an eastern direction along the forest path through the field to the forest, where there is already a via ferrata sign. The path is well marked with a red and white dot and signs. The start is on the left just above the Bambini klettersteig.

Exit

After the end of the via ferrata, follow the marked path back to the entrance and then the access path to the parking.

Points of Interest

The via ferrata is year-round, but it is not recommended to climb in wet and snowy conditions. In winter, the via ferrata is tricky.

Right next to it is a great ferrata Bambini, ideal for children and beginners. There are many hiking trails and picnic spots in the forest.
