Characteristics

This via ferrata was build in 2018 and offers great views on Bohinj lake. It is only suitable for experienced mountaineers with sufficient strength in their hands. Some additional problems can also be caused by a steel rope that is a bit thinner than usual on such demanding ferratas. The cylinders are attached to the drill bits and not to the larger wedges that we see on most other via ferratas. The steel rope is often completely next to the wall and makes it difficult to use the via ferrata set.

Arrival

From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, we focus on the Lesce exit and follow the road to Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica, Ribčev Laz and Ukanc. On the west side of the lake, leave the road towards Koča pri Savici and turn right towards Ukanc. Follow this road to the parking lot near the abandoned Zlatorog hotel where we park. Parking is also possible at any of the other parking lots on the west side of the lake. Parking is payable.

Approach

From the parking lot continue on the main road to the first intersection where we focus on the foot path to the lake. At the lake, continue north along the path that leads around the lake. At the northwestern edge of the lake at the crossroads continue to the right and for a short time we continue on the path that leads around the lake and then the signpost for climbing Uket directs us to the left on a narrow path.

We focus on the aforementioned path, which first climbs several times in the keys. There are quite a few downed trees along the way. We quickly reach a crossroads where the sign on the rock directs us to the right towards the climbing area and to the left leads the way to Savica.

The route is marked with red dots and runs east all the way. The trail is relatively poorly groomed and mostly climbs slightly, but in some places it also drops slightly. Here through the woods we occasionally have a beautiful view of Lake Bohinj and Vogel. When we reach the climbing area we will first notice the inscription "Uket" on the rock, here we continue for a short time along the track, which crosses the slopes to the east, and then we will see the beginning of via ferrata on the left.

Exit

In the forest, keep to the right from the exit (trees are torn down to the left) when you reach the forest in the Vogar-Pršivec route. There are two complicated return options: Vogar - Stara Fužina - by the lake to the car; or across Pršivec (or directly) to Planina Viševnik, down to Black lake (Črno jezero) and across Komarča to Savica and back to the car.

Interesting facts

This via ferrata makes an exceptional tour. Height of large via ferratas and the difficulty of some difficult well-known ferratas. The views of the lake are fantastic. Problems in the summer are definitely snakes, in the spring there is still snow; in autumn this is a phenomenal tour.
