Characteristics

A well-known ferrata that leads to the very peak of Großer Priel, the highest peak of the Totes Gebirge (2515m). Ferrata is both time consuming and technically challenging. Mostly difficulty C, D, with many ladders, sometimes in a light overhang. From the ferrata you can see beautiful views of the surrounding peaks (for example Spitzmauer, where is another ferrata). If you do not have enough experience do not go there if it is wet.

(times at the topo are not accurate. From the parking lot to the cottage it can a little over 2 hours, then an hour to get on. The exit depends on the season when there is snow, it's faster than climbing the stones underneath. Ferrata can easily be climb in 3 hours if you are not in a big group and do not have pauses.)

Arrival

Hinterstoder - straight on the main road behing Hinterstoder turn right to Polsterlucke. There is a parking lot.

Approach

Go to Prielschutzhaus. From there, turn right down the red tourist sign to the ferrata. At the crossroads, turn right to Großer Priel (such an unpleasant and steep way up) and still follow the red tourist route - to the left you have leftover snow from the glaciers, to the right you can see end of the ferrata Südostsporn. It's easy to pass the start of the ferrata, hold on to the right, you can not start the ferrata from the left.

Exit

Use normal road back to Prielschutzhaus. In the spring, when you are lucky, you can speed up the descant by sliding on the snow :) Stay to the right so you get back on the road again, otherwise you'll have trouble finding it, everywhere around is bush and you can not get through it.
