Characteristics
The exposed and relatively long via ferrata in Mathaisenkar is somewhat overshadowed by the Alpspitze climb and the Höllental climb to the Zugspitze. This via ferrata is one of the longest in Germany, but is not as crowded as others in the area.
Arrival
Munich - GaPa. The nearest parking lot is at the train station in Hammersbach.
Boarding
You have to leave the ascent route to the Zugspitze behind the Höllentalangerhütte to the left. The ferrata begins on the upper scree field and climbs to the Grießscharte, with sloping, short ridge passages and airy transitions to the summit of the Alpspitze.
Exit
From the Grießscharte the descent leads over the Grießkar to Stuibensee (1921 m). Shortly before that, turn left onto the Nordwandsteig (A/B), which leads through the north face of the Alpspitze and runs through tunnels, or you can continue the descent and go below the Bernadeinkopf back to the Osterfelderkopf. From the Alpspitz over the east ridge (partly A/B, short section in the 1st grade, mostly walking terrain) down into the Oberkar. Then on the Nordwandsteig to Osterfelderkopf. From the Alpspitzbahn valley station take the train back to the parking lot.
