Characteristics
Via ferrata Hohe Mut is one of the easiest via ferratas in the Ötztal and has an alpine feel due to its altitude. The via ferrata is very well secured and runs along the flat eastern cliffs of the Hohe Mut and is interrupted in the middle by a wide strip of grass. The exit is near the mountain station, from the top you have a perfect panorama of the ice giants of the Gurgler glacier.
In the first part, the via ferrata is undemanding (short section B, mostly around A/B), then the grass belt is crossed along a short but perfectly arranged winding path. In the second part you have the option to climb directly (short B/C at the beginning, then B and most of A/B) to the top. Or you can take the right, very short exit, but it's not worth it (difficulty A/B), because it's more like an emergency exit. In this part, it is then necessary to walk for about 15 to 20 minutes behind the stone men to the highest point. A relatively easy via ferrata in the high Alps, where you have a fantastic view of steep 3000m high peaks!
If there is still snow in the mountains, then residual snow from the winter remains for a long time at the entrance and on the grassy ledge, and the road is not accessible. When wet, the flat rock is very slippery to move on.
Attention: The via ferrata is not yet officially accessible (currently still closed, opening on July 13, 2024)!

Arrival
Prague > Rozvadov > Munich > Follow the A12 around Innsbruck to the turnoff to the Ötztal valley > Obergurgl.
Onset
From the center of Obergurgl, take the hiking trail (no. 4, 5 and 6, gravel path, also accessible with MTB). After the Nederhütte, route No. 26 turns left into the Geisbergtal valley. Follow this path below the Hohe Mut-Ostabbruch and after a small heath turn right at the signpost to the start of the via ferrata.
Alternative: You can take the Hohe Mut cable car to the middle station (to the Nederhütte), after which the boarding time is reduced to approx. 30 minutes.
Descent
From the Hohe Mut mountain hut, take path no. 28, which is very steep, and takes you back to the Nederhütte. From there you continue along the access road back to the valley.
Alternative: You can take the Hohe Mut cable car down to the valley, then you will save yourself a steep and laborious descent (the upper station is right at the end of the upper left part of the via ferrata).
