Characteristics
High alpine, technically only moderately difficult summit via ferrata via the north ridge, one of the best panoramic mountains in the Ötztal Alps.
Arrival
On the A12 to the Ötztal exit and via the B186 to Obergurgl. Park where possible.
With public transport: by train to Ötztal. Continue by bus (line 4194) to Obergurgl center.
Approach
From Obergurgl on path 922 via the Schönwieshütte, the Langtaleggerhütte and the Hochwildehaus to the Gurgler Ferner. Cross the glacier ascending and climb along the Mitterkamm to the glaciated Annajoch. Now up to the firn flank of the Hochwilde (at the end a little steeper). The via ferrata starts right at the edge of the glacier at 3410 m.
Exit
Same as approach.
Interesting facts
Sure-footed climbers can hang on to the transition to the Hochwilde main summit (3480 m). The climbing difficulties reach up to the 2nd degree. 45 minutes should be estimated for each direction.
The descent from the Hochwilde main summit over the Langtaler Furthermore results in a nice round, but is more dangerous due to the crevasse-rich glacier.
This summit via ferrata on a glaciated 3000m is often made as the shooting point of the via ferrata transalp. For climbing this via ferrata you should have high-altitude experience!
Can be easily combined with the Schwärzenkamm via ferrata and the Obergurgler via ferrata.
