Characteristics

One of the most beautiful pass in the Eastern Alps. Watzmann (2713 m) is one of the highest massive in Germany and it is also a mountain with one of the most beautiful views! (Tested by authors) It is connected by three peaks:Hocheck - Mittelspitze - Südspitze. On the top is a bivouac for 6 people, where you can sleep safely. The trip is very time-consuming, there is no water until you get back into the valley.

2017 - ferrata is practically unsecured.

Arrival

You can park either by the lake on a large car park (paid) or from Berchtesgarden via the 305 Ramsau / Wimbachbrücke road where is a large parking

Approach

The forest path leads to Stuben and then to the cable car. It also rises to the Watzmannhaus. From the Watmannhaus again up the rock to the top of the ridge. Here starts the ferrata and follows another 2.5km. It is not difficult.

Exit

Descent is unpleasant, stones are moving and falling down. It goes down to the valley and then to the Wimbachgrieshütte. The road leads directly to the car park (11km)
