Characteristics

Impressive, sometimes exposed crossing of a 650 m long ridge between the two almost identical peaks. The great deep and distant views (you can see both Lake Wolfgang and Lake Hallstatt) make up for the short via ferrata sections.

Arrival

A1 to the Regau or Mondsee exit, then continue on the B145 / B158 or B154 / B158 to the settlement of Ramsau 6 km west of Bad Ischl. Turn south at the inn "Zur Wacht" and follow the Schöffaubach 500 m to the end of the possibility of driving.

By public transport: by train to Bad Ischl and then by bus (line 150) to Strobl Wacht.

Approach

Always follow the forest road along the Schöffaubach to a bridge just before the Oberen Schöffaualm. Immediately after the bridge, turn left onto the marked hiking trail (signpost "Bergwerkskogel") and across the Laufenbergalm to the first ferrata elements at approx. 1650 m.

Exit

Via the Rettenkogel trail to the ascent path. Rettenkogel-Steig (A): from the summit, first walk down to the two long ladders (A). After this you cross the slope until you come to the third ladder (A). Continue through mountain pine fields (two short places A secured with steel cable). Then on a climb down to the Sonntagkaralm and further down into the valley.

Interesting facts

Walking in the opposite direction is possible, but more difficult (climbing the most difficult points).
